OpenAI is expanding GPT-6 across ChatGPT and introducing Intelligent UI, a response system that can assemble interactive interfaces inside a conversation. Announced on 7 October, the release moves beyond a uniform stream of text by allowing the model to choose charts, forms, buttons, diagrams and small task-specific tools when they suit the question.
The rollout begins with Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, followed by Free and Go plans. Paid tiers use GPT-6 Sol for the Chat experience, while Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says the models used by ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release, an important distinction for organisations managing several product surfaces.
Responses can become usable tools
Intelligent UI can present a comparison side by side, turn an explanation into an interactive diagram or create a calculator directly in the chat. OpenAI’s examples include a bill splitter, a retirement savings calculator, a road-trip map and a simple game. The model is also trained to keep a straightforward text answer when additional interface elements would add little value.
This changes the role of the model from writing an answer to selecting a presentation and interaction pattern. A useful result must now be factually sound, clearly organised and operationally reliable. A calculator that looks polished but uses the wrong assumptions can be more misleading than an ordinary paragraph because the interface encourages confidence and action.
A native component system under the response
OpenAI built a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that processes the interface while the model generates it. The shared library gives responses consistent controls and visual foundations, while leaving GPT-6 to decide which elements appear and how they fit together. Progressive compilation means the interface can arrive without waiting for the full response.
The company says training included assessments of content, layout, clarity, usefulness and completeness. Design judgement is therefore part of model behaviour rather than a fixed template chosen in advance. OpenAI acknowledges that this judgement still needs improvement, particularly as the range of interfaces and tasks expands.
Answering while reasoning continues
GPT-6 can begin responding while it continues to think or use tools, adding findings as they become available. This aims to reduce the perceived delay associated with reasoning models. Users can start reading early, although they should recognise that an initial partial view may not contain later qualifications or evidence.
Product designers will need clear cues for incomplete responses and changes that arrive during generation. Interactive controls should not invite a consequential action before the relevant context is ready. For enterprise use, administrators will also want predictable behaviour when streamed interfaces include data from internal systems or connected tools.
Availability and governance
The global rollout is staged, and Enterprise access remains subject to workplace administrator settings. Organisations should test how Intelligent UI handles citations, permissions, accessibility and data classification before encouraging broad use. Native components may improve comprehension, but they do not remove the need to verify outputs used for financial, legal, health or operational decisions.
Accessibility deserves particular attention because visual and interactive answers must remain usable with keyboards, screen readers and different display sizes. A model-generated interface should preserve labels, focus order and readable alternatives. The native component approach gives OpenAI an opportunity to enforce those standards more consistently than arbitrary generated web code.
Software begins adapting to each request
The release reflects OpenAI’s view that people should be able to describe a goal and receive an interface shaped around it, rather than learn a fixed application for every task. That could make lightweight tools faster to create and complex explanations easier to explore. It also concentrates more design decisions inside the model.
The practical measure will be whether Intelligent UI selects restraint as reliably as it selects novelty. Users need interfaces that clarify the work, expose assumptions and remain stable enough to trust. If GPT-6 can meet that standard, ChatGPT becomes less like a single chat window and more like an adaptive application surface assembled for the task at hand.
Developers and workplace administrators should also examine how these generated interfaces behave when a conversation is exported, shared or revisited later. An interactive calculation may depend on state that is not obvious in a static record. Auditability requires the underlying inputs, formulas and model-generated assumptions to remain available, not only the rendered result. Clear versioning will matter when the model updates an interface after receiving new information.
For everyday users, the best safeguard remains the ability to inspect and change the important inputs. Intelligent UI should make a task easier to understand rather than conceal the reasoning behind polished controls. OpenAI’s component library can support that goal if it consistently exposes sources, units, ranges and confirmation steps where they affect the outcome.
That transparency will matter most when an interface recommends a decision rather than merely explains a concept.
