What is DALL·E?
DALL·E is OpenAI's earlier image-generation family. It remains documented for compatibility, but DALL·E 3 is now labelled a previous-generation, deprecated model in OpenAI's model documentation.
Core offerings
- Text-to-image generation through the Images API.
- Standard and HD image quality options for DALL·E 3.
- Compatibility for existing integrations while customers migrate to current GPT Image models.
Pricing
The official DALL·E 3 model page lists legacy generation rates of US$0.04 for a standard 1024×1024 image, US$0.08 for standard portrait/landscape images, and US$0.08–US$0.12 for HD output. These rates are retained here for migration context, not as a recommendation for a new deployment.
API and model availability
No DALL·E row has been added to the API Cost page because OpenAI currently marks DALL·E 3 deprecated and the review rules exclude retired or deprecated models. Current OpenAI image models are tracked under OpenAI instead.
Why select DALL·E?
Existing users may need DALL·E documentation for compatibility, but new integrations should evaluate OpenAI's current GPT Image family.
