What is Scale AI
Scale AI provides data annotation, dataset management, model evaluation and enterprise generative-AI infrastructure. Its Data Engine supports image, video, text, audio and sensor-data workflows, while the GenAI Platform is sold for enterprise application development and deployment.
Self-Serve Data Engine
As of August 8, 2026, Scale's pricing page advertises the first 1,000 labeling units at US$0 when customers bring their own workforce. Its Data Management offer also lets customers upload and curate their first 10,000 images at US$0. These self-serve routes are intended for experimental and research projects and are accessed through Scale's dashboard.
Scale's Rapid self-labeling documentation separately specifies 200 free labeling units each month and charges US$0.05 for each additional unit. One annotation equals one labeling unit and one attribute equals half a unit. There is no minimum dataset size and no stated collaborator limit for self-labeling. Because the introductory 1,000-unit offer and the recurring Rapid allowance are documented in different official surfaces, customers should confirm which allowance their workspace receives before estimating production spend.
Enterprise
Enterprise pricing is custom. It combines the Data Engine and Enterprise GenAI Platform with enterprise-grade quality, service-level commitments and dedicated customer operations support. Scope can include managed annotation, data management, RLHF and data generation, model evaluation and red teaming, and enterprise generative-AI applications.
Pricing considerations
Self-service users can begin with the published no-cost allowances and pay the documented Rapid unit rate when applicable. Managed labeling, expert data, evaluation work and the enterprise platform require a scoped proposal; Scale does not publish a universal cash rate for those services.
