Workday has made Workday Learning powered by Sana generally available worldwide as an integrated service for Workday Human Capital Management customers. The release combines Workday's workforce data with Sana's AI-native learning tools to personalise training, generate interactive courses and automate routine learning administration.
The product follows Workday's acquisition of Sana and brings the learning platform into Workday's core enterprise environment. Organisations that do not use Workday HCM or Workday Financial Management can continue to buy Sana Learn as a standalone service.
AI tutoring and personalised paths
Learners receive an AI tutor embedded in course material. They can ask questions in natural language, request explanations, practise skills and receive feedback while working through a program. Smart search is designed to surface a relevant lesson or policy answer rather than requiring an employee to browse an entire course library.
Recommendations can use Workday HCM context including a person's role, skills, organisation and location. Workday says this can produce learning paths that reflect the employee's current work and future development needs. A manager moving to another country, for example, could be directed towards the relevant local policy and leadership material.
Using employment context can improve relevance, but it also raises governance questions. Customers should decide which workforce fields are appropriate for personalisation, how recommendations are reviewed, whether employees can understand why a course was suggested, and how sensitive HR information is separated from learning content.
Course creation and administration
Instructional designers can upload PDFs, presentations and existing course files, then use AI to convert them into structured lessons with quizzes, polls and reflection prompts. Workday says this can reduce the time required to create, update and translate training for large organisations.
Generated material will still need subject-matter review. Compliance, safety and technical training can become misleading if an AI system omits an exception or turns an outdated source into a polished lesson. Organisations should retain approval workflows, source records and scheduled reviews, particularly where completion is used as evidence for regulatory or workplace obligations.
Administrators can manage assignments, campaigns, reporting and controls for Workday-native and Sana-created content in one place. Learning paths can update when employees join, change roles or move regions, reducing manual list maintenance for onboarding, compliance and professional development programs.
Availability and limits
Workday Learning powered by Sana is generally available globally for Workday HCM customers. The company notes that existing Workday Learning guidance continues to apply in environments where Sana components cannot be used, including certain regulated and sovereign deployments. Customers therefore need to confirm regional, sector and data-residency availability rather than assume every feature is enabled in every tenant.
The announcement does not publish pricing, implementation timelines or detailed accuracy measures for the tutor and course-generation features. It includes customer and analyst endorsements, but these are not independent comparative evaluations. Outcomes will depend on the quality of source material, the structure of an organisation's Workday data and the governance applied to generated learning.
What the integration changes
Enterprise learning systems have traditionally separated course catalogues from the workforce records that describe roles, skills and organisational changes. Workday's integration is intended to close that gap. A learning program can respond to a role change automatically and use HR context to alter what an employee sees, while administrators manage the workflow from the same enterprise platform.
For existing Workday customers, that could reduce duplicated data and manual assignment work. For non-Workday customers, standalone Sana Learn preserves a path to the learning tools but will not have the same native access to Workday HCM context. Buyers should compare both deployment models, integration requirements and governance boundaries.
The general availability milestone makes the Sana combination a production Workday offer rather than a future acquisition roadmap. The practical test will be whether customers can generate useful, accurate learning more quickly while maintaining human review, employee transparency and the controls expected for workforce data.
